Shimla/Bilaspur (HP), Oct 27 (PTI) The Shimla-Bilaspur-Dharamshala National Highway, which had been closed for repair following road subsidence earlier in the day, has been opened to light vehicles, officials said on Tuesday.
The key road connects the capital Shimla to the state’s nine districts.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had closed the stretch in the morning for all vehicles, an official spokesperson said in a statement.
The NHAI and the office of the Bilaspur Superintendent of Police followed the development with an advisory, suggesting alternative routes.
Earlier, the police suggested motorists headed to Shimla from Bilaspur and Hamirpur to go via Barmana, Jukhala, Jwal Pul, Ranikotal, Gharsi, and Darlaghat.
Vehicles travelling from Shimla toward Bilaspur and Hamirpur were suggested to proceed via Darlaghat, Gharsi, Ranikotal, Jwal Pul, and Ghumarwin/Barmana.
Tourists visiting destinations such as Shimla, Kasauli, Chail, Narkanda, and Kufri — a national highway preferred by many to travel onward to places like Manali, Dharamshala, and Rohtang — were also asked to follow the advisory.
Traffic has been halted near Khalota in Namhol in Bilaspur district.
The road in Namhol (Bilaspur) on the Shimla-Dharamshala National Highway will remain closed until the repair work is over.
People travelling from Shimla to Mandi were advised to go via Darlaghat, Navgaon, Gharsi, Ranikotal and Bairi.
Directives have also been issued to prioritise emergency vehicles. PTI BPL VN
