Narsannapeta (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 19 (PTI) A private travel bus caught fire while heading to Palasa in Srikakulam district on Saturday, though all seven passengers escaped unhurt, police said.

Srikakulam district Superintendent of Police K V Maheshwar Reddy said the bus, which had started its journey from Kothagudem in Telangana, caught fire at around 9.30 am in Narsannapeta village.

“It was a private travel bus, and there were only seven people on board. Before the fire started spreading, the passengers alighted,” Reddy told PTI, adding that the incident occurred in broad daylight, allowing an onlooker to alert the driver in time.

The cause of the fire was yet to be established, the SP said, adding that the bus belonged to KVR Travels.

The incident comes amid a spate of bus fire cases reported in Andhra Pradesh over the past several months. PTI STH SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
