New Delhi, Sep 19 (PTI) Supporters of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) candidate Vishesh Yadav protested outside Delhi University’s Faculty of Arts on Saturday, following the announcement of the DUSU election results, and demanded a recounting.
Yadav, who contested for the joint secretary’s post, demanded a recounting of votes and alleged irregularities during polling.
According to the final result sheet, ABVP’s Lakshay Raj Singh won the joint secretary’s post with 16,615 votes, followed by Yadav with 15,778 votes and NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary with 15,206 votes. AISA-SFI candidate B Parijaat polled 5,837 votes, while NOTA received 7,389 votes. The total votes polled for the post were 60,825.
The results were announced on Saturday after 20 rounds of counting, with the ABVP winning three of the four central panel posts and independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen winning the vice-president’s post.
Following the results, supporters of Yadav gathered outside the Faculty of Arts in North Campus and raised slogans, demanding a recount of the votes, according to officials.
Visuals circulated on social media showed police personnel removing some of Yadav’s supporters from the protest site as the demonstration continued.
A DU official told PTI that the election process was “extremely transparent” and that the administration was not considering a recount of the votes.
