Thiruvananthapuram/New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Tuesday reacted strongly to the detention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by Delhi Police, saying the Congress would lead the fight for the country and the INDIA bloc would emerge victorious.

“No era will pass without being held accountable…The Congress will lead this fight for the country, and the INDIA bloc will emerge victorious,” Satheesan, who is in New Delhi, said in a Facebook post.

He shared a video of Gandhi being forcibly removed by the Delhi Police from the protest venue, where he was seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the country’s electoral process.

Gandhi was detained along with his sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday night after they staged an over eight-hour sit-in at the Akashvani Bhawan premises.

The protest began after police stopped opposition MPs from marching to the Election Commission’s office, around 300 metres away, over allegations of “vote chori”.

Gandhi had entered the All India Radio (AIR) premises on Parliament Street and started the dharna after the police thwarted the march.

As the premises were cleared of protesting MPs, police forcibly removed Gandhi and several Congress MPs and leaders, including K C Venugopal, Pawan Khera, K Suresh, Amarinder Singh, Raja Warring and Imran Pratapgarhi.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
