New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday reviewed preparedness for tropical cyclone ‘Arnab’, expected to make a landfall on October 28, and stated that safety protocols and rapid restoration measures are in place across Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam divisions.

According to the IMD, a very severe cyclonic storm Arnab is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts near Yanam, between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, by the forenoon of October 28.

“War rooms are active at Zonal, Divisional and Board level. Round-the-clock monitoring is underway,” Vaishnaw said in a social media post.

“Passenger safety is the top priority. Around 600 km of track is under close watch. Relief wagons with repair material are stationed at Krishna Canal, Bitragunta, Mamidipudi, Visakhapatnam, Palasa and Ponduru,” he added.

He further stated that diesel locos, power units and ambulances are on standby at key junctions while earthmovers, tree cutters and restoration tools are placed at short intervals.

“Wind speed and water level are checked every hour. Senior officials are on site. Coordination with NDRF and State Disaster Authorities is active,” Railway Minister said. PTI JP JP AMJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
