Deoghar, Oct 6 (PTI) Five unidentified people robbed Rs 4.8 lakh from an ATM after uprooting it in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, the accused forced open the kiosk’s shutter in the Nandan Pahad area between 3:30 am and 4 am, tied the ATM to their sports utility vehicle, uprooted the machine and took it to the Devipur area.

There they broke it open and decamped with the cash, Deoghar Superintendent of Police (SP) Praveen Pushkar told PTI.

“The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Police are examining the footage to identify the accused and trace the vehicle,” he said.

A case has been registered, and police stations across the districts have been alerted to nab the miscreants, the officer added. PTI RPS RPS NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
