Seraikela (Jharkhand), Oct 15 (PTI) Two persons, including a teenager, were killed in separate road accidents involving trucks in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district on Thursday, police said.

In the first incident, Sagar Hembram, a student of a private school, was killed after a truck rammed into his scooter from behind on the Seraikela-Rajnagar bypass road within Seraikela police station limits.

Seraikela police station officer-in-charge Vinay Kumar said police impounded the damaged scooter and the truck and launched an investigation.

The driver fled the spot after the accident, he added.

Traffic on the road was disrupted for some time before police removed the vehicles and restored normal movement about an hour later.

In a separate incident, a 20-year-old youth was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck near Chandrapur on the Seraikela-Kandra road in the evening.

The victim, a resident of Narayanpur village under Seraikela police station limits, was returning home from work on his motorcycle when the truck hit him, killing him on the spot, police said.

Angered by the incident, locals blocked the road but withdrew the blockade after about 30 minutes following assurances from police that necessary action would be taken.

The driver fled the scene, and police were examining CCTV camera footage to identify the vehicle, officials said.

Both bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem, police added. PTI BS MNB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
