New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) The Congress took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday over the “brutal handling” of INDIA bloc leaders by police as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar to stage a protest against “vote chori”, saying this is the reality of the “We Will Do It” proclaimed by the “slogan sultan”.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said there were “disturbing visuals” from Janpath, from where Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA bloc leaders were dragged away and arrested once again by the Delhi Police on Wednesday.

“INDIA janbandhan leaders were simply attempting to reach Jantar Mantar to register their protest against the capture of the electoral system through the CEC,” Ramesh said.

“The brutal handling of elected representatives by the police shows the utter contempt of the poisonous pair of PM-HM for our Constitution and democracy. This is the reality of the We Will Do It proclaimed by the Slogan Sultan today,” the Congress general secretary said.

Earlier in the day, coining the “We Will Do It” slogan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India will become a developed country by 2047, but flagged casteist divisions during elections as a major challenge.

Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ to mark a quarter-century as a head of government, Modi also highlighted his government’s achievements in different sectors and said what once seemed unimaginable has become possible.

“The dream we are seeing today in 2026 of a developed India will surely come true. There is no reason for India to stop now. A hundred years ago, we were even less than 40 crore; today, we are more than 140 crore. The 140 crore citizens will together build a developed India by 2047 and we certainly will. We Will Do It,” he said. PTI ASK RC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
