Jaipur, Aug 24 (PTI) With Rajasthan’s urban local body election process underway, police have cautioned voters, candidates and election duty personnel against cyber fraudsters who may attempt to dupe them through fake voter links, OTPs and QR codes.

Additional Director General (Cyber Crime) V K Singh said the cyber crime branch of police headquarters has issued an advisory in this regard.

According to the advisory, amid the poll buzz, cyber fraudsters may send messages via WhatsApp or SMS such as “check your name in the voter list” or “your polling booth has changed”, luring people into clicking on fake links.

Singh appealed to people not to click on suspicious links and to rely only on official websites for information related to the voter list or voting process.

He also warned people against sharing OTPs, bank details, UPI PINs or other personal information with anyone posing as an Election Commission official and seeking voter card updates, verification or other electoral details.

Singh further advised candidates and political workers to keep two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled on their social media accounts across platforms.

Officials said fraudsters could also attempt to dupe people through QR codes under the guise of collecting election donations during the poll period.

Voting for all 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan will be held in two phases on September 9 and 11, with results to be declared on September 14. PTI AG MDO MDO

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
