Jaipur, Sep 20 (PTI) Hanumangarh Independent MLA Ganesh Raj Bansal was detained by the CID-CB in connection with a 23-year-old case involving fake land leases, police sources said on Sunday.
Bansal was detained by a CID-CB and Special Crime Branch team while he was travelling from Bikaner to Hanumangarh late Saturday night, according to the sources.
After questioning, he was taken to Pallu police station.
The case dates back to 2003, involving the alleged distribution of forged land leases, the sources said.
Though CID-CB ASP Satpal Singh declined to comment on the matter, police sources in Hanumangarh confirmed his detention.
The detention comes ahead of the Hanumangarh Municipal Council chairman’s election, in which the Bansal-backed group has a majority.
Of the 60 wards, BJP won 15 seats, Congress 10, while 34 independents backed by Bansal’s group and one CPI(M) candidate were elected. PTI AG KSI KSI
