Jaipur, Sep 20 (PTI) Three members of a family, including a couple and their 20-year-old daughter, died allegedly by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, police said Sunday.
The incident occurred in Gadhi Malyan area on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Ashok Sharma (59), his wife Indra Sharma (52) and daughter Diksha Sharma (20), police said.
According to the police, the trio consumed Celphos tablets mixed with water. Their condition deteriorated, following which they were rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Adarsh Nagar SHO Om Prakash Meena reached the scene with a police team and began an investigation.
He mentioned that Ashok Sharma’s son, Gaurav, was present in the room when the incident occurred. Gaurav had come to Ajmer from Jaipur about two days prior, while his wife was visiting her parental home.
Ashok Sharma was a furniture businessman, police said, adding that the reason behind the deaths was not immediately clear.
Police are questioning family members, locals and examining the circumstances in which the three allegedly consumed the poisonous substance.
Neighbours claimed that the family was facing significant debt. Additionally, police said that Ashok Sharma had called relatives to inform them about taking the extreme step.
The bodies have been kept at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
