Rain, thunderstorms in store for Odisha over next 6 days: IMD

Bhubaneswar, May 4 (PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecast thunderstorms accompanied with rain, lightning and gusty surface winds in several parts of Odisha during the next six days.

According to a bulletin issued by the IMD Bhubaneswar centre, thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds are likely to occur in Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sundergarh and Deogarh districts on Tuesday.

It has also issued an ‘orange warning’ (be prepared) for these districts.

A ‘yellow warning’ (be aware) has been sounded for Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts for Tuesday.

Similar weather conditions would prevail in several districts of Odisha till May 10, the bulletin stated.

On Monday, three places in Odisha recorded a maximum day temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.

Boudh was the hottest place in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda (40.6 degrees Celsius) and 40.2 degrees Celsius in Talcher.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius, while neighbouring Cuttack registered a temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius, the bulletin added. PTI BBM RBT
