Hyderabad, Oct 6 (PTI) Condemning the detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders over the INDIA bloc MPs march towards the Election Commission and day-long protest in Delhi, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the “unlawful detention” is the reflection and proof of hubris of a “failing” government.

The BJP-led NDA government is scared of the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi to save India, its Constitution and safeguard the voting rights of people, he said in a statement.

“There are precedents in our country’s history. The British Government also arrested Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Pundit Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose and other leaders at different times of our freedom struggle on similarly flimsy grounds,” he said.

But as millions of citizens, especially youth, have become a part of the struggle to save voting rights, democracy and the country’s future, such actions shall not deter the opposition, but “rather inadvertently, actually strengthen us,” he said.

“The ‘British Janata Party’ can rest assured. We are not going away from our determination and the resolve to stake everything for the sake of the country. India shall fight till its last ounce of ability, and till democratic forces led by Rahul Gandhi triumph,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among the around 250 people detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday night following an over eight-hour sit-in protest inside the Akashvani Bhawan premises, after they were stopped from marching towards the Election Commission’s office in Delhi. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
