New Delhi, May 5 (PTI) Ahead of the India-Africa Forum Summit to be held in the national capital later this month, the Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated road and footpath improvement works near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, officials said on Tuesday.
Delhi will host the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit on May 31 in collaboration with the African Union Commission.
“In the Dhaula Kuan area and other South Delhi areas connecting IGI Airport to central Delhi, the PWD will take up road and footpath improvement works, for which tenders have been floated,” a PWD official said.
Roads in the southwest region are also being readied, with a 21-day completion timeline. Areas around popular markets and historical sites, including Rajghat, are also being spruced up as visiting foreign dignitaries are expected to tour these locations.
As part of the plan, damaged kerbstones on footpaths will be repaired, potholes filled, road markings repainted, and general maintenance carried out. The Dhaula Kuan to NHAI wall road section in South Delhi is frequently used by people travelling to the airport.
On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to ensure the smooth conduct of two international summits scheduled later this month. Gupta chaired a meeting to review preparations for the India-Africa Forum Summit and the first International Big Cat Alliance Summit, to be held from May 28 to June 1.
“Officials were directed to ensure arrangements are of the highest level. Special emphasis was placed on a 24×7 control room, nodal officers, and real-time monitoring,” the chief minister had said.
Instructions were also given to ensure better management of cleanliness and public facilities at markets and tourist sites. PTI SSM RHL
