Agra, Jun 1 (PTI) Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday said that a “pure” and accurate electoral roll is the foundation of transparent voting, stressing the importance of maintaining error-free voter lists.
He is on a two-day private visit to his hometown, Agra.
“Voters should understand that a pure electoral roll is the basis of transparent voting,” Kumar said after arriving here.
The chief election commissioner (CEC) said he sought the blessings of his parents upon returning home for the first time after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state.
Kumar reached Agra on Monday afternoon to meet family members and visited his residence, where he was welcomed by relatives. He said receiving his parents’ blessings after the completion of the voter list revision exercise was a special moment.
According to family members, Kumar will stay here overnight before leaving on Tuesday.
A 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala cadre, Kumar assumed charge as the 26th CEC of India on February 19 last year.
