According to the latest data released by the Punjab government, 262.48 LMT of wheat has been procured by the state government so far this season, which is higher than last year’s total procurement of 262.02 LMT.
The state government claimed that this increase in wheat procurement will benefit 22.31 lakh farmers across the country, with a total MSP of Rs 59,715 crore. The highest contribution to the procurement came from Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with procurement of 124.26 LMT, 71.49 LMT, 47.78 LMT, 9.66 LMT, and 9.07 LMT, respectively.
The procurement of paddy also shows progress, with 728.42 LMT paddy equivalent to 489.15 LMT of rice already procured from 98.26 lakh farmers during the current marketing season, with a total MSP of approximately Rs 1,60,472 crore. The country’s total wheat and rice stock now stands at more than 600 LMT, which is enough to meet the country’s food grain requirements under the PMGKAY scheme and other welfare schemes, as well as for market interventions.
