Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Oct 27 (PTI) The Hoshiarpur district administration and police on Tuesday demolished an illegal structure built through proceeds from the drug trade by a family linked to narcotics trafficking in a village, officials said.

The action was taken under the ongoing anti-drug ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign, they said.

The illegal structure was built on encroached panchayat land in Sarhala Kalan village through proceeds from the drug trade by a family linked to narcotics trafficking. The family members are facing multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, they said.

The demolition was carried out in the presence of Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Mand, DSP Bharat Bhushan and Assistant Commissioner (under training) Amandeep Kaur, along with a heavy police contingent.

Mand said the action was part of the campaign launched to eradicate the drug menace in the state.

He said no leniency would be shown towards anyone involved in the drug trade and that action would be taken against them as per law.

He added that action would also be taken against other illegal constructions.

Officials said the demolition was part of a 60-day drive under the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign and that similar action would be taken against other illegal structures. PTI COR SUN SHS
