Chandigarh, Jul 9 (PTI) Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging that the AAP government had failed to curb a series of bomb blasts in the state and police appeared “clueless” about the incidents.
Reacting to the bomb attack on a police station in Moga, Warring alleged that Mann had failed both as chief minister and home minister of Punjab.
He claimed the government was treating the repeated explosions as routine incidents and referred to earlier blasts reported in Jalandhar and Amritsar.
Questioning the effectiveness of the Punjab Police, Warring said if police stations themselves were being repeatedly targeted without fear of the law, the safety of ordinary citizens was a matter of serious concern.
He also welcomed the action taken by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against gangsters allegedly operating from the United States and targeting Indians.
Warring said the crackdown would ensure that such criminals no longer had safe havens abroad.
Referring to reports that a Punjab Police inspector had been identified in connection with the alleged extortion of USD 4 lakh and intimidation of people, Warring claimed the case supported the Congress’ allegations that some police personnel were aiding gangsters.
He urged the Punjab Police to emulate the FBI’s approach and take strict action against organised crime in the state.
Warring also said he had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing concern over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and seeking intervention. PTI VSD KSS KSS
