Pune, Oct 6 (PTI) An unidentified thief broke into Pune’s famous Kasba Ganpati temple in the early hours of Tuesday and decamped with around Rs 60,000 in cash after prying open a donation box, police said.
The entire theft was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras, and the police have formed three teams to track down the culprit who struck post midnight at the 19th-century shrine in the Kasba Peth area.
Kasba Ganpati is considered the presiding deity of the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushikesh Rawale said that the thief broke open the donation box and escaped with Rs 60,000 cash.
Efforts are underway to identify the accused based on the footage and ascertain the direction he fled after committing the theft, the official said, adding that the police are in the process of registering a case at Faraskhana police station. PTI SPK ARU
