New Delhi: Farmer leaders on Monday started their day-long hunger strike against the Centre’s new farm laws and said protests will be held at all district headquarters later in the day, even as more people are expected to join ongoing agitation at Delhi border points.

Farmer leader Baldev Singh said, “Representatives of farmer unions have started their hunger strike at Singhu Border.”

On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he would also observe a day-long fast on Monday and appealed to the central government to shun ego and scrap the legislations.

A large group of farmers on Sunday blocked the key Delhi-Jaipur national highway when it was stopped by police on Haryana-Rajasthan border.

As part of the nationwide protest, dharnas will be staged at all district headquarters across the country on Monday.

In view of nationwide protest, the Delhi Police has enhanced security at city border points.

  1. Punjab farmers should not resort to hunger strike. They must realise that centre govt is bringing these reforms for the betterment of all farmers in future, they are not and can never be to harm them or grab their land. All right minded economists confirm that these reforms have been overdue for the last couple of decades. Congress has mislead the farmers to start with and is along with leftists is providing the logistical support to damage Modi Govt image. The Bhed Chal support on Quid pro Que basis by neighbouring states farmers is ill conceived hence must be discouraged by their relatives and friends. Farmers should accept the olive branch offered by govt, call off protests and return home to avoid winter and corona. Or at least continue the token protest by keeping few hundred farmers on Sindhu border and sending home the rest. Politicians must refrain from instigating the farmers along with NRIs from creating Gung Hu mahaul.
We need Adani, Ambani and other corporaters to set up factories and generate jobs ,instead of going after them. Of course they must be checked for making undue profits at the expense of farmers.
