Amaravati, October 30 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said electricity supply had been restored in 4,881 of the 5,404 cyclone-affected villages under the APEPDCL service area, while 393 villages in Konaseema and West Godavari districts were still awaiting restoration.

The Chief Minister reviewed relief and restoration operations with the Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad and other officials following an aerial survey of cyclone-affected areas. Officials briefed him on the progress of electricity, road and mobile network restoration.

“Power supply has been restored in 4,881 of the 5,404 affected villages under Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) while restoration work is still underway in 393 villages in Konaseema and West Godavari districts,” Naidu said in an official press release.

In the APEPDCL service area, 513 of the 552 affected substations have been restored, while work remains pending at 39, said the press release, adding that power supply has also been restored in all affected villages in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada and Eluru districts.

Of the 509 affected 33 kV feeders, 489 have been restored, while 2,355 of the 2,958 affected 11 kV feeders have also been restored. In Krishna district, electricity supply has been restored in 867 of the 915 affected villages under the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) service area.

Naidu directed officials to speed up electricity repairs and mobilise additional personnel from other states if required. He instructed them to continue restoration work until supply was restored to all affected households and villages.

As many as 661 of the 1,045 damaged mobile towers were restored, it said, adding that works are pending in the remaining 384 towers.

The roads and buildings department has cleared all 2,270 trees that fell across roads, including 1,334 in Konaseema district. Traffic connectivity has been restored at 119 of the 137 locations where movement was disrupted.

The cyclone damaged 2,425.4 km of roads. At a location in Srikakulam district, traffic was being allowed on only one side of the road due to flowing water.

Preliminary assessments showed that agricultural crops in 3,52,254 hectares in 16 districts were affected, while horticultural crops in 23,211 hectares were damaged.

Naidu said Central teams were expected to visit the state to assess crop losses. The state government was preparing to present the extent of damage and seek Central assistance.

Rainfall between October 26 and 29 is estimated to have brought around 380 TMC of water across the state. Reservoir storage has increased by 4.6 TMC, with another about six TMC expected.

Minor irrigation tanks have received 22 TMC of water, with a further over 12 TMC expected. Groundwater reserves have increased by approximately 44 TMC, the release said. PTI MS ADB
