New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra modi on Wednesday commended the leaders and workers of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for carrying sacred waters from the Krishna and Godavari rivers to Varanasi, and termed the gesture very touching.

The waters of the two rivers were brought by the TDP workers on motorcycles as part of the “Seva Sankalp Yatra” marking Modi’s completion of 25 years as a head of government.

The prime minister said over the last few days, people from Andhra Pradesh embarked on a motorcycle “yatra” from Tirupati to Varanasi, emphasising “seva” (service) and “sushasan” (good governance). Their gesture of carrying sacred waters from the Krishna and Godavari to Varanasi is also very touching, he added.

“I compliment the team of TDP leaders and Karyakartas who organised the Yatra and ensured people from all walks of life participated,” Modi said in a post on X.

Modi has been continuously serving as a head of government — first as the chief minister of Gujarat for three terms and subsequently, as the prime minister after winning three Lok Sabha elections — since October 7, 2001.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
