Varanasi, Oct 7 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary on Wednesday said people of the state will choose those associated with “Ganga” instead of those linked with “danga” in the upcoming assembly elections, pitching the contest as one between development and good governance and “appeasement”.
The BJP state president was in Varanasi for the concluding ceremony of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life. He welcomed and felicitated participants of a service yatra that travelled from PM Modi’s birthplace of Vadnagar in Gujarat to Varanasi in UP.
“I can say with full confidence that the people of Uttar Pradesh have decided that they want to choose Ganga wale not Danga wale; they want development and good governance, not appeasement,” Chaudhary posted on X.
His reference to “Ganga” also came in the political context of Prime Minister Modi’s long association with Varanasi, from where he has been elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014, 2019 and 2024. When Modi first contested the Varanasi seat in 2014, he had famously said that neither had anybody sent him there nor had he come on his own, but “Mother Ganga” had called him to Varanasi.
Chaudhary said he was witnessing enthusiasm among the people and claimed that the youth in Varanasi and across the state were increasingly associating themselves with the BJP and Modi.
He said the youth were not confined to Instagram but were displaying their “talent, energy and strength” in villages and had the potential to contribute to Modi’s vision of a developed India.
Chaudhary also praised Modi’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying India had developed an appropriate and affordable vaccine not only for itself but for the world and had fulfilled its responsibility towards humanity.
He said Modi’s 25 years of public service, dedication and nation-building had given the country a new direction and expressed confidence that UP would further strengthen that “resolve” in the upcoming assembly elections by giving the BJP an even larger majority.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among those present at the concluding ceremony.
Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, BJP Yuva Morcha national president and Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, besides ministers, legislators, MLCs and other senior party functionaries, also attended the programme. PTI KIS KSS
