Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 24 (PTI) An aunt of the 19-year-old youth, who fell from a hill in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on August 21, has dismissed as rumours the theory that her nephew was upset after the family refused to buy him a phone.
Simultaneously, police investigating the death of the teenager and his parents on Monday said the family was stressed over a dispute, which prima facie prompted Kunal to attempt suicide.
The tragedy unfolded in the Tisgaon area on August 21 afternoon when three members of a family died after a domestic dispute ended in a sequence of fatal falls from a hilltop, police said The deceased have been identified as Murlidhar Chandgude (48), his wife Sangita, and their 19-year-old son Kunal, residents of the city’s Zalta Phata area.
Pallavi Patil, sister of Sangita Chandgude, has claimed that the incident was not linked to a mobile phone and dismissed such reports as rumours.
”Today, we are watching on social media that Kunal did this because a mobile phone was not purchased. People should not spread such rumours. People don’t know anything. Such videos are painful to our old parents and us. We have lost our elder sister. People should think about our sufferings before saying anything about the three who lost their lives,” she said in a video.
Citing a preliminary investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar said the family was stressed over some disputes.
”The incident took place on August 21 when Kunal (19) stood on the edge of the hill and threatened to commit suicide. Police tried to dissuade him through dialogue, and the fire brigade was also called.
“At the last moment, his father (Murlidhar) tried to pull him back, and they slipped. Suddenly, the mother (Sangita) jumped from the spot,” he added.
He said the dispute has been going on in the family for the last two to three months, causing stress.
“Due to this, the son tried to commit suicide on August 21. We are investigating this case, and we are going to the root cause of this incident,” the police officer added. PTI AW NSK
