New Delhi: The filing of an FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is the first step towards victory, said wrestlers protesting in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar Friday, while adding that they will continue to agitate.
The Delhi Police Friday informed the Supreme Court that it will register an FIR against the WFI chief. The intimation came as the top court was hearing a petition moved by women wrestlers alleging sexual assault by Bhushan.
Several wrestlers such as Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Sangita Phogat and Bajrang Punia have been camping at the Jantar Mantar since Sunday, demanding action against Singh over allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by women wrestlers. Singh, meanwhile, has denied the charges.
“Our protest will continue until he is sent to jail,” ace wrestler Punia has been quoted as saying by ANI. Punia, along with Vinesh and Malik addressed a press conference at the Jantar Mantar Friday.
