Jaipur, May 28 (PTI) A 19-year-old man from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district gave a new lease of life to some patients through organ donation after being declared brain dead following a road accident.

Jigyanshu, a resident of Rasoolpur Aheeran village, was undergoing treatment at Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) in Jaipur after suffering severe head injuries in a road accident on May 23.

According to the hospital, he was initially admitted to a hospital in Narnaul and later referred to Jaipur due to his critical condition. Despite continuous efforts by doctors, he could not be revived and was declared brain dead according to the medical protocol.

Following counselling by the hospital team, the family consented to organ donation on May 27.

Hospital authorities said teams from SDMH, AIIMS Jodhpur and SMS Medical College Jaipur successfully carried out the organ retrieval procedure overnight.

Specialist teams from SDMH, including doctors from gastro-intestinal surgery, urology and anaesthesia departments, assisted in the procedure along with experts from AIIMS Jodhpur and SMS Medical College.

A green corridor was created on Thursday morning to transport the liver to Jodhpur for transplantation, while a cadaver kidney transplant was also carried out at SDMH on the same day. PTI SDA KSS KSS
