Using loitering munitions, Pakistan Thursday evening targeted Jammu city. ThePrint has learnt that Jammu airport was among the targets.
While multiple explosions were reported from different parts of Jammu, it was not immediately clear if this was a result of projectiles fired by Pakistan or interception by Indian air defence systems.
Sources also confirmed to ThePrint that gunshots were heard in Satwari and Gandhi Nagar areas. No casualties have been reported so far.
Jammu experienced a total blackout but power was later restored to parts of the city.

6.15 pm: India has honoured Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) for more than six decades, says Misri, adding that Pakistan has over the years created roadblocks to application of the treaty. India’s approach to upholding the treaty all these years shows patience on New Delhi’s part. Underlining the need to revisit the treaty, he says the imperative of clean energy and the need to keep up with technological advancements warrants this move.
6.10 pm: Giving an update on instances of shelling by Pakistan causing casualties along border areas in India, Misri says 16 civilians including 3 women and 5 children have been killed and 59 others injured.
The foreign secretary also denies claims in Pakistani media that Indian armed forces tried to target Neelum-Jhelum dam. Pakistan will be held responsible for any such attempts to target infrastructure in India, he adds.
6.05 pm: Misri reacts to Islamabad’s claims that only civilians were killed in strikes. He shows a picture of a funeral in Pakistan and remarks that as far as India was concerned, it only targeted sites accepted as terror-related infrastructure. Giving terrorists state funerals may be a practice in Pakistan, but it does not make much sense to us, says Misri.
6 pm: Foreign secretary says past instances are proof that Pakistani assertions of wishing to take part in investigations are not well-intentioned. Pakistan uses evidence we provide to cover its tracks, defend terrorists India is looking for, and to obstruct the probe, he adds.
“The experience has not been positive. This is delaying tactics. There is evidence that Pakistan uses info we provide to further stonewall the investigation,” he says.
5.55 pm: Misri reiterates that India has no intention to escalate matters, and that Indian armed forces are merely reacting to attempts by Pakistan to target military installations in India. He adds, “I want to highlight the involvement of the TRF in the attack. Group is a known front for well known Pakistan based organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba. We are going to meet with the UN 1267 sanctions committee soon and will be providing them updated info.
“Pakistan pushed for the removal of TRF from the UNSC statement despite the organisation claiming responsibility twice. This comes after its masters and handles across the border realised the scale of the attack to force them to retract.”
Misri also says Pakistan’s reputation as epicentre of terrorism is rooted in concrete evidence available to governments and law enforcement agencies around the world. There are several terrorist attacks around the world that can be linked to Pakistan, he said, adding: “Where was Osama bin Laden found? Who called him a martyr?”
5.45 pm: Reiterating the statement issued by the MoD earlier in the day, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh say India thwarted attempts by Pakistan to target military installations the previous night. Foreign Secretary Misri says Pahalgam attack on 22 April was the initial escalation and India is merely responding to it.
“There is mention on all sides of escalation. I think the first point you have to keep in mind that the attack on 22 April in Pahalgam is the original escalation,” he says; reiterates that no military targets were hit when India carried out strikes on night of 6/7 May.
5.25 pm: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh to brief press at MEA in New Delhi shortly.
