Thane, May 5 (PTI) The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Tuesday said it will conduct a comprehensive death audit to analyse causes of mortality and improve healthcare in the region.
NMMC commissioner Kailash Shinde reviewed the civic body’s health services and stressed the need for planned measures to enhance the quality of care across all facilities.
He directed that services provided at all places, from primary urban health centres to public hospitals, should be regularly evaluated at the headquarters level and improvements should be made, the civic body stated in a release.
While reviewing the birth and death rates in the municipal area for the last three years, the commissioner directed that a death audit should be conducted by analysing the causes of each death, and the reasons behind it should be studied and used for appropriate treatment in the future to reduce the mortality rate, it said.
The commissioner directed that data collected from the civic body’s 26 primary urban health centres be regularly verified at the headquarters level.
He also called for wider outreach of vaccination drives, screening campaigns and health camps, and suggested active involvement of local corporators to ensure greater public participation. PTI COR ARU
