Patna, Oct 6 (PTI) BJP national president Nitin Nabin arrived here on Tuesday and was expected to hold meetings with party leaders in Bihar ahead of the October 23 legislative council polls, a party functionary said.

Several BJP leaders received Nabin at Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna.

“Nabin is expected to meet senior state BJP leaders and party candidates for the council polls,” a BJP functionary said.

Tuesday is the last day for filing nomination papers for the elections to the eight council seats.

Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 7, and candidates can withdraw themselves from the contests on or before October 9.

Polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on October 23, with counting scheduled for October 27.

The BJP recently announced its candidates for four of the eight legislative council seats. Three of them are sitting MLCs and will seek re-election from their respective constituencies.

Earlier, the JD(U), the second largest constituent of the five-party NDA bloc in Bihar, had announced its candidates for four other seats.

Nawal Kishor Yadav, Dr N K Yadav and Sarvesh Kumar will seek re-election from their respective seats on BJP tickets, while the party has also fielded Narendra Kumar Singh. PTI PKD BDC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
