Mumbai, Sep 20 (PTI) A total of 1,338 Ganesh idols were immersed across Mumbai on the seventh day of the festival till 6 pm on Sunday, with no untoward incident reported, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
Of the idols immersed, 14 were from ‘sarvajanik’ Ganesh mandals (community groups), 1,248 from households and 76 were of goddess Gauri, the civic body said in a report.
According to different traditions, Lord Ganesh idols are immersed on the first-and-a-half day, third day, fifth day, sixth day, seventh day and on Anant Chaturdashi (concluding day of the festival).
The BMC said the immersion process remained smooth.
The civic body has made arrangements for immersion at various sites, including artificial ponds, across the city for devotees.
The festival began on September 14 and will conclude on September 25, when a large number of idols will be immersed after colourful processions. PTI KK NR
