Indore, Aug 24 (PTI) The Lokayukta Police on Monday registered a case against four persons, including a police inspector and two constables, for allegedly accepting a bribe for releasing a man here without taking action on a complaint filed against him, an official said.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Sahay said that a local man was summoned to the police’s Crime Prevention Branch office in March, based on a complaint.
Without elaborating, Sahay said the police personnel allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh from the man in exchange for not acting on the complaint and releasing him.
According to Sahay, the police personnel transferred Rs 50,800 via UPI to the account of a person named Deepak Patel on March 20, after which the man was released. The remaining alleged bribe of Rs 70,000 was taken in cash the next day.
Sahay said a case was registered after verifying details of the complaint against Patel, along with then Crime Branch Inspector Sujit Srivastava, constables Abhay Singh and Vikas Sendhav.
The Superintendent of Police said a detailed investigation is underway into the case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). PTI HWP MAS NSK
