Kochi, Sep 21 (PTI) The mortal remains of two women from Keralam, who were allegedly murdered in California in the US, arrived at the Cochin International Airport here on Monday and were handed over to their relatives, officials said.
The 32-year-old Anila Baby from Kottayam allegedly murdered her two friends, Ann Mary Mathew (35) and Anjana Hari (35) in separate attacks within about 90 minutes of each other, according to police and media reports in the US.
The killings occurred on August 28 in San Jose and Milpitas, two South Bay cities in the US state of California located less than 20 kilometres apart.
Baby was arrested the same day and initially charged in the Milpitas killing.
However, on September 8, prosecutors also charged her with murder in Ann’s death.
According to police officials at the airport, the bodies of Anjana, a native of Thrissur and Ann, a native of Kesavadasapuram in Thiruvananthapuram, were handed over to her relatives by around 11 am.
The bodies were brought to Kochi via Dubai after being transported from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Ann’s body will be taken to her husband’s residence in Kottayam and kept at the mortuary of Kottayam General Hospital, officials said.
Her funeral service is scheduled to start at her husband’s residence in Kottayam on Tuesday at 11 am, officials said.
Anjana’s body was taken to her husband’s residence at Vilanganur in Thrissur, where a public homage was scheduled to be held on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Her cremation is scheduled to be held at her parental home in Mudikkode, Mannuthy, later in the evening, they said. PTI TBA TBA KH
