Gurugram, Oct 7 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday hailed Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office, describing the career as a journey for the welfare of the country and for the welfare of the poor, and a transformative chapter in India’s history.

The day, October 7, is “golden and epochal” in the history of Indian democracy, Shah said, addressing a gathering here.

He said that over these 25 years, Modi continuously served the country and crores of citizens as both, a chief minister and the prime minister.

The ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ has been organised to commemorate these 25 years, he said.

Before addressing the gathering at ‘Viksit Bharat Sabha’, Shah listened to the prime minister’s speech at the event, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh, and the party’s newly appointed Haryana affairs in-charge Smriti Irani. State BJP chief Archana Gupta was also present.

This was Irani’s first outing in the state since she was appointed to the position.

Modi on Wednesday, while addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’, gave the slogan — “We Will Do It” — for the goal of a developed country by 2047.

Shah later on X said that under Modi’s leadership, the country took steps towards freedom from poverty, made its mark in every field from science to heritage, and established its identity as a self-respecting nation.

He exhorted the public on the occasion to resolve to never stop nor deviate from the path till the goal of a developed India by 2047 becomes a reality.

Besides the party politicians, hundreds of youths also listened live to Modi’s address.

Shah launched the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Jyoti Yatra in Gurugram on Wednesday under the party’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan by handing over the yatra torch to Saini.

“We have organised this Seva Jyoti Yatra in every district across the country” to make this journey memorable,” Shah said.

Shah also praised Modi for powering through his struggles despite being born in a poor family.

Shah listed as Modi’s achievements: Poverty alleviation, a secure India, abrogation of Article 370, elimination of Naxalism, construction of the Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, and a transformed infrastructure.

On the occasion, Saini walked through prominent routes of Gurugram and installed the yatra torch near Signature Tower.

The Haryana chief minister said the development of the country and the state would be meaningful only when better facilities reach every person, and people’s lives become happy, prosperous and free from problems.

Modi has been in a top public office since October 7, 2001, first serving as chief minister of Gujarat and then as prime minister of India. PTI SUN VN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
