New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday announced that he will perform an 11-day anushthan (a ceremony involving a set of rituals) before the consecration ceremony at Ram temple in Ayodhya on 22 January.

As part of these rituals, the PM said he would visit Panchvati in Nashik — where the Hindu deity Ram is said to have spent much of his exile from Ayodhya, according to the epic Ramayana. Modi said it is his “good fortune that at the beginning of my 11-day ritual, I am starting it from Nashik Dham-Panchvati. Panchvati is that holy land where Lord Shri Ram spent a lot of time,” he added.

Sharing an audio message with the public on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Modi said he would also pay a visit to the Shree Kalaram Mandir, a temple dedicated to Lord Ram, in the Panchvati area.

“Only 11 days remain to the pran pratishthan of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. I am fortunate that I too will witness this auspicious occasion. This is a time of unimaginable experiences for me. I am emotional, overwhelmed with emotions! I am going through such emotions for the first time in my life. I am experiencing a different feeling of devotion,” he said.

Modi added: “God has asked me to represent the people of India during the ceremony. Keeping this in mind, I am beginning an 11-day special ritual from today. I seek blessings from all of you.”

The prime minister, who will preside over the consecration ceremony, called it a huge responsibility. “As it is also said in our scriptures, we have to perform yagya of God. For worship, one has to awaken divine consciousness within oneself. For this, fasting and strict rules have been prescribed in the scriptures, which has to be followed by pran prathistha,” he added.

“Hence, the guidance that I have received from ascetic souls and great men of spiritual journey…the rules and regulations that they have suggested…accordingly, I am starting a special ritual for 11 days from today,” the PM said.
