Aizawl, Apr 27 (PTI) Ruling Zoram People’s Movement chief and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday thanked the people of Aizawl for the party’s landslide victory in the civic polls.
The ZPM won 17 of the 19 seats in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, while the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress secured one seat each, according to results announced on Monday. The BJP, which contested 11 seats, drew a blank.
“I offer my thanks to God and the people of Aizawl for enabling us to form the board in AMC. We are deeply grateful to all our supporters and partners for their unwavering commitment and active participation throughout the campaign,” Lalduhoma said in a Facebook post.
The CM congratulated all newly elected corporators across party lines, wishing them a successful tenure.
He also thanked the state election commission for conducting free and fair elections.
Senior Mizo National Front (MNF) leader and the party’s campaign committee chairman, Lalruatkima, congratulated the ZPM for the overwhelming success in the civic polls.
Speaking at a party meeting, Lalruatkima described ZPM’s victory as timely and expressed hope that the new leadership would deliver good governance for the people of Aizawl.
Reflecting on the results, he said the MNF had fielded competent candidates capable of administering the city, but acknowledged disappointment that the party fell short of its electoral goals. He appealed to unsuccessful MNF candidates to continue serving the public through the party.
The first AMC poll held in 2010 was won by Congress, while the subsequent two elections in 2015 and 2021 were swept by the MNF. PTI CORR MNB
