Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 5 (PTI) Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Monday said that his government’s pet project, ‘Mission Samudra’, will turn the state’s maritime strengths into “an engine of port-led economic growth”.

Satheesan, in an X post, said that Rs 400 crore has been earmarked as initial investment for project in the revised budget for the financial year 2026-27.

He said that the project is backed by the Vizhinjam port and the state’s 600 km long coastline.

“With a Rs 400-crore outlay in our revised Budget, Mission Samudra will turn Keralam’s maritime strengths into an engine of port-led economic growth. Anchored by #Vizhinjam and our 600-km coastline, the mission unites 12 government departments to integrate ports, inland waterways, road and rail corridors, air cargo and modern logistics hubs.

“It will also support shipbuilding and repair, seafood value chains, cruise tourism and maritime skilling for our youth,” he said in his post.

The CM said that the success of the project will be measured by sustainable growth, quality jobs and inclusive opportunities for the people of Keralam and not just ships and containers.

Last month, Satheesan had said that ‘Mission Samudra’ will tap the state’s maritime potential, from cargo movement and tourism to seafood exports, to become a new driving force for economic growth of Keralam.

He had also said that the initiative seeks to connect Keralam’s maritime trade tradition dating back 2,000 years with new opportunities.

Under the project, the state’s 600-km coastline, two international ports, a container terminal and 18 minor ports would be connected to create a network of ports across Keralam. PTI HMP ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
