Godda (Jharkhand), Oct 23 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl has allegedly been gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Godda district, following which the police have arrested five people, an officer said on Friday.

The incident happened in Mahagama police station area on Wednesday night when the survivor and two of her male relatives were going to her aunt’s house after visiting a fair in Urjanagar area.

When they reached Jiajori forest, six people intercepted them, thrashed the men and forced them to flee, and took turns to rape the girl. They also snatched her silver chain from her neck, Mahagama police station officer-in-charge Abhinav Anand said.

The survivor’s mother later filed a police complaint, and a case under BNS and the POCSO Act was registered, he added.

“We have so far arrested five accused, and a manhunt has been launched to nab other persons involved. Medical examination of the survivor has been conducted, and she is undergoing treatment in a hospital. Her condition is stable,” Anand said.

Police recovered the chain snatched from the survivor, and further investigation is underway, he added. PTI COR RPS RPS ACD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
