Mumbai, Jul 9 (PTI) The Mumbai Crime Branch on Thursday carried out raids at 13 places in the city in connection with a major mephedrone drug bust that took place in May this year, an official said.
The Kandivali unit of police’s Anti Narcotics Cell had seized mephedrone worth Rs 50.74 crore, besides weapons and equipment allegedly used to manufacture the narcotic substance, after discovering a drug manufacturing unit operation from a residential flat in south Mumbai’s Agripada area at the time, he said.
The chemicals used for manufacturing the drug were allegedly procured through online orders from 11 different companies, but a probe revealed that none of these firms existed and the addresses on which they were registered were fake, the official added.
In connection with this major mephedrone manufacturing and trafficking network, 10 ANC teams carried out raids at 13 places in Mumbai on Thursday, including in Agripada, Bandra, Colaba, Powai and Ghatkopar, he said.
Local residents are being questioned and information about the bogus companies is being collected to identify all the stakeholders in the drug manufacturing and supply chain, the official said. PTI ZA BNM
