New Delhi: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) recently organized the Swachhata Pakhwada celebrations in the organisation. The cleaning drive was conducted from 16th May to 31st May 2024.

The programme began with a Swachhata Pledge by the Officers and Staff of MDoNER and its various organisations. Following the pledge, the department conducted a comprehensive cleaning of rooms, common spaces, office equipment, computers, furniture, and other common items. Records that are no longer required under the recent rules were also disposed of.

The waste materials that were dumped in the backyard of the Vigyan Bhawan Annexe were also cleared. To raise awareness about the importance of plants, all the officers and staff of MDoNER were given indoor plants. The organisations also distributed plants, and tree planting activities were organised in nearby locations involving local communities and students from schools and colleges.

Additionally, under the Swachhata Pakhwada, the department conducted vehicular emission testing in NEC, Shillong, and other locations. The same activities were also carried out by NERAMAC, NEDFi, and NECBDC in and around their offices, schools, local bazars, and other locations. A workshop was also organised by NEHHDC for students to create awareness about critical environmental issues, particularly climate change and waste management practices.

Nukkad Natak was also conducted to highlight the important role of cleanliness in community health. Prizes were also given to the winners of the essay competition, poster-making competition, and slogan-writing competition by the department.
