Bhandara, Oct 27 (PTI) A 31-year-old man was killed in a tiger attack in eastern Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, a forest official said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred between 7.30 pm and 8 pm on Monday on a forest track in the Garada beat of the Bhandara forest division.

The deceased was identified as Amit Raut, a resident of Basora in Bhandara taluka.

He was returning with friends from Nagpur on a motorcycle when a tiger pounced on him.

While his three friends fled, Amit suffered injuries in the attack and died.

Bhandara district is home to the Nawegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve.

“As tigers have been moving around the area, trap cameras have been installed at the site to monitor their movements. The forest department has also stepped up patrols to trace the tigers. Information indicates the pair of tigers found in the vicinity are a male and a female. People are requested to remain alert and not to believe any rumours,” Forest Range Officer Vilas Belkhode said.
