Kollam (Keralam), Aug 24 (PTI) A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly uploading intimate videos of his wife on a pornographic website and performing a sexual act in the presence of his four-year-old daughter at Kottiyam here, police said.
According to police, the accused, a native of Mayyanad, had been living in the UK with his wife and daughter for the past four years.
The couple had married six years ago following a love affair.
The alleged incidents came to light after the woman’s friends informed her that her intimate videos had been circulated on pornographic websites while the family was in the UK.
Though she initially warned her husband, she later checked his mobile phone and allegedly found a video showing him engaged in a sexual act in the presence of their daughter, police said.
The couple subsequently returned to Keralam, and the accused underwent counselling for three days.
However, after the counselling, he allegedly recorded another video of himself engaged in a sexual act in the presence of the child, police said.
When the woman questioned him about the incident, the accused allegedly assaulted her, following which she was hospitalised.
Based on information received, police recorded the woman’s statement and registered a case.
After examining the videos, a separate case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.
The accused, who allegedly went into hiding following the incident, was traced and arrested by police.
Advocate Prasanth V Kurup, who represented the complainant, alleged that the accused had also pressured his wife to participate in wife-swapping.
“She never agreed to it. He was an engineering dropout and had accompanied his wife to the UK. It appears that even after counselling, he continued with the alleged offences,” Kurup told PTI.
Kurup also alleged lapses on the part of the police in initially recording the complainant’s statement and conducting the probe.
“However, when we decided to approach the Kerala High Court, they expedited the investigation and arrested the accused,” he said. PTI TBA TBA ROH
