Latur, Aug 12 (PTI) A liquor addict has been arrested for allegedly killing the 15-month-old son of his relative by throwing him into a drain in Latur, police said on Wednesday.
Prima facie, the accused was frustrated over not having a son; however, police are also investigating whether a land dispute between the accused and the grandfather of the toddler led to the crime.
The incident occurred in Sant Goroba Kaka Housing Society area on Monday. The accused, identified as Somnath Patole, allegedly picked up the toddler from near his house and later threw him into a drainage channel, resulting in his death.
According to the police, the two families lived next to each other. A case of murder was registered on Tuesday against Patole based on the complaint of the toddler’s father.
A court on Wednesday remanded Patole to judicial custody. PTI COR NSK
