Ahmedabad, Aug 12 (PTI) A 22-year-old man from Jharkhand was found hanging from a crane on the 32nd floor of an under-construction residential tower in Ahmedabad, police said on Wednesday.
Pritam Singh had been working as a crane operator at the construction site near the SG Highway for the past several years.
Initial probe showed that Singh hanged himself during the night, said Inspector K N Bhukan of Sola police station. Other labourers spotted his body hanging from the crane early Wednesday morning, he said.
After being alerted, police visited the site and shifted the body for post-mortem examination.
The official said no suicide note was recovered from the site.
“It appears to be a case of suicide. However, it is unclear why Singh took this extreme step,” Bhukan said.
Project engineer Darshal Joshi said he learned about the incident after receiving a call from a labourer early in the morning. “Singh’s brother is in contact with the police and has indicated that he may have been under stress due to some internal family issues,” Joshi said.
Police said they would investigate the circumstances that led the young man to take the step and were recording statements of family members and co-workers as part of the probe.
An accidental death case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police added. PTI PJT NR
