Kolkata, Oct 7 (PTI) The body of a man, with his legs tied and visible injury marks on the face, was found inside a locked app cab vehicle in Kolkata’s Tangra area on Wednesday, police said.

Bhagwan Prasad Gupta (44), a resident of Doltala in Madhyamgram, is suspected to have been the driver of the cab, they said.

The body was found inside the vehicle parked along the Debendra Chandra Dey Road in Tangra. The car was locked from inside when police reached the spot.

“With the help of a local mechanic, our officers broke open the lock and recovered the body. The entire process was videographed as part of the investigation,” an officer said.

“The circumstances surrounding the death, the ownership of the vehicle and any possible enmity involving the deceased were being examined,” he said.

CCTV footage from the area will also be analysed.

Officers from the Kolkata Police’s Homicide Squad, Scientific Wing and Detective Department have joined the investigation, he added. PTI SCH RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
