Mathura (UP), Apr 27 (PTI) A 48-year-old man died after falling from a roof while trying to escape an attack by monkeys in a village here, family sources claim.

Confirming the death, police said that a post-mortem had been conducted and the matter is under investigation.

According to the family of Amar Singh (48), the incident occurred on Friday when he was drying the rain-soaked wheat on the roof of his house in Pingari village. In a bid to escape from an attack by the monkeys, he jumped from the roof and fell unconscious.

Amar’s family rushed him to a hospital.

“His condition was critical as he suffered injuries to the head and ribcage,” said Singh’s nephew, Kedar Singh.

“He (Amar Singh) was referred to SN Medical College, after he was unresponsive to the treatment given at three different private hospitals in Agra. He died on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at the SN Medical College,” Singh added.

Kedar said Amar Singh’s daughter was supposed to get married on May 10, and his family, which was earlier busy preparing for the wedding, are now grieving the death of their kin, a family member said.

Social activist Laxmi Gautam said that the city is troubled by the rising population of monkeys, who are getting more violent with every passing day. They not only chase locals, but are also notorious for snatching glasses, mobile phones, and valuables.

She also shared an incident that happened eight years ago, where one of her acquaintances in Govind Bagh in Vrindavan lost her life after falling from the third floor of the house after being attacked by monkeys. PTI COR NAV HIG HIG
