Pune, Oct 15 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday said the Mahayuti alliance will win all five seats in the Legislative Council elections.

The ruling alliance was contesting the polls together, barring a few exceptions, he added.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Navratri event in Pune, Shinde said the Shiv Sena had extended support to independent candidate Sachin Sanap in the Pune Division Teachers constituency.

Polls to the Pune Graduates, Nagpur Graduates, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates, Pune Teachers and Amravati Teachers constituencies will take place on October 23, while votes will be counted on October 27. Registered graduates and teachers residing in the respective constituencies are eligible to vote.

Asked about Opposition criticism of the assistance provided to farmers amid drought, Shinde said these leaders have no work except criticising the government.

“They had earlier demanded that drought be declared. They are now criticising the government after it announced the drought. The Opposition is also questioning the decision to provide an advance of Rs 5,000 to farmers,” Shinde said.

Parties should keep politics aside and stand firmly with farmers during this crisis, he said.

“Instead of criticising the government, Opposition leaders should come together and support farmers,” Shinde asserted. PTI SPK BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
