New Delhi: The anti-corruption body, Lokpal, has ordered a CBI inquiry into the cash-for-query allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, BJP’s Nishikant Dubey said Wednesday.

“On the basis of my complaint, Lokpal has ordered a CBI probe into the Mahua Moitra’s corruption that compromises national security,” a rough translation of his post on social media platform X said Wednesday.

Dubey is the main complainant against Moitra. He has alleged that she accepted cash and expensive gifts from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament that targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and billionaire Gautam Adani.

Moitra last month admitted that she gave her Parliament login and password details to Hiranandani.

Dubey based his first complaint to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last month on “irrefutable evidence” provided by advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, whom Moitra has labelled a “jilted ex”.

Dubey has also sought an inquiry against Moitra and her immediate suspension from the House for “breach of privilege, contempt of the House, and criminal offence under Section 120-A of the IPC”.

Moitra, who has had long-sparring sessions with Dubey on and off the floor of Parliament, immediately replied to Dubey with a testy post on X, saying the CBI could come and “count her shoes”.

The matter is now with the Lok Sabha ethics committee which has recorded statements from Dubey and Dehadrai but ran into rough weather during their session with Moitra last week.

The Trinamool MP stormed out of the meeting, objecting to the questions the panel had asked her.

In a letter to Speaker Om Birla, she complained committee chairperson and BJP MP Vijay Kumar Sonkar had subjected her to “the proverbial vastraharan” in the presence of all members of the panel.

She said she had faced “unethical, sordid, and prejudiced behaviour” at the meeting, where she appeared in connection with the cash-for-query charges against her.
