The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), founded by Abhijeet Dipke, and its supporters held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They were joined by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
The CJP had secured permission to hold the protest at Jantar Mantar till 5 pm. Delhi Police said the permission was given as a “one time exception”, with terms and conditions, and that they have relaxed the procedural requirement of advance notice for such protests.
Dipke, who arrived from the US a short while ago, had called on supporters and students to join the demonstration, to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leaks, as well as the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) and revaluation row, which has left thousands of students awaiting clarity on their final results.
Originally launched as a satirical response to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s remarks during a court hearing last month, when certain individuals were referred to as “cockroaches” and “parasites”, the CJP has since evolved into an organised campaign with a substantial online following. 9 pm: Dipke says ‘it was just a trailer’
In a post on X, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the protest at Jantar Mantar was “just a trailer”.
“Going home to see my parents, it’s been more than a year since I last met them. They’ve suffered a lot over the last 15 days and had to leave home because of threats. Will be taking them back to home,” he added.

7.30 pm: Kejriwal, Thackeray back CJP
Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal X has backed the Cockroach Janta Party’s call to demand accountability from the central government. “Rather than terming them anti-national, Modi govt shud address their issues. AAP supports their demands,” the former Delhi chief minister wrote on X.
Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson released a statement on behalf of party chief Uddhav Thackeray saying it is “not right to belittle them by calling them ‘cockroaches’ and deny them justice”.
“Do not underestimate the cockroaches — this is the warning given by the agitation at Jantar Mantar,” the statement by the former Maharashtra chief minister added.

6 pm: CJP gives govt ultimatum
A spokesperson of the CJP told the media that the protest in Jantar Mantar was just a “trailer” and they intend to launch a nationwide stir if Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is not dismissed within seven days. “People in thousands came for the peaceful protest…For us the priority is to reset India’s education system. It is a long fight,” he said.

3.30 pm: CJP threatens ‘nationwide protest’
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has told his supporters that if Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan does not resign, the he will issue a call for a nationwide agitation.
The movement has been demanding Pradhan’s resignation over the NEET paper leak and other irregularities in the education sector.
2.00 pm: Sonam Wangchuk walks in with a rose
Climate activist from Ladakh Sonam Wangchuk has joined the protests at Jantar Mantar. He walked in with a rose, and thanked the CJP for the peaceful protest. He also thanked the government for giving them permission to organise it.
Many other protesters reached the venue with flowers, handing them out to the security personnel deployed there.
12.30 pm: Slogans of ‘Pradhan resign’ at Jantar Mantar
Hundreds of protesters who gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the demonstration raised slogans demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Lakshay Verma, a college student who came to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi all the way from Alwar, Rajasthan, to join the protest, told ThePrint. “So many aspirants commit suicide, no one is held responsible for their deaths.”
Many of the protesters held flowers, which they offered to the security personnel deployed to control and manage the crowds.

Hundreds gathered at Delhi’s IGI airport to catch a glimpse of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke ahead of the protest at Jantar Mantar. Dipke, who stepped out of the airport with a copy of the Constitution, was greeted with slogans like ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Abhijeet Dipke Zindabad’.

7.30 am: Heavy security across Delhi
There is heavy security across Delhi, especially in Jantar Mantar and the road from IGI airport to central Delhi, border entry points, major railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and other sensitive locations.
More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across the New Delhi district and other strategic locations as part of preventive security measures, PTI sources said. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed in Central Delhi.
Police teams have also been deployed at key intersections, marketplaces, and other sensitive locations to maintain law and order.
Multiple layers of barricades have been put up outside the international airport precinct as part of heightened security measures, while vehicle-checking drives have been intensified at border points and on major routes leading to central Delhi, officials said.
The protest comes amid heightened tensions over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET-UG controversy. This year’s exam has been rescheduled for June 21 following disruptions, including paper leaks and administrative lapses.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its probe, with multiple arrests made, while officials, including CBI Director Praveen Sood and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, recently briefed a Parliamentary Standing Committee on the progress of the investigation.
Student organisations have already staged demonstrations in Delhi and other parts of India, demanding accountability for repeated examination irregularities. Several protesters were detained outside the Ministry of Education earlier.
Political reactions have also intensified, with opposition leaders questioning the government’s handling of the examination system. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Rahul Gandhi have publicly criticised the Centre over these issues.
