New Delhi: Hundreds gathered at the Indira Gandhi international airport to cheer founder of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Abhijeet Dipke as the 30-year-old left the airport for Jantar Mantar, the site of the protest, with a copy of the Constitution. Supporters were heard chanting, “Jai Bhim, Abhijeet Dipke Zindabad”.
Dipke has called a protest demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Earlier, in a social media post he said he would reach India from the US Saturday. On Friday, before leaving the US, he wrote, “Leaving my fate in the hands of the Constitution”, tagging the post #Jaibhim.
Mithilesh Kumar finished his duty at the airport, and rushed to T3 arrivals to catch a glimpse of Dipke. “India needs a youth leader like him,” he said, adding, “CJP can resolve a lot of problems for us.”
Talking to ThePrint in earlier interviews, Dipke had said the youth are pushing him to continue the movement. Within days of its launch, the CJP had more than 20 million followers on Instagram.
Vijay Kumar, an NGO worker from Jharkhand, reached Delhi Friday to attend the protest and meet Dipke. “CPJ is important for the people” he said.
Kumar said the movement should be taken seriously. “It should not become a political party; the day it becomes a party, the movement will die,” he said.
‘No hope from Modi, but from CJP’
Khushbu, 23, changed her shift at work to see Dipke and attend the protest at Jantar Mantar. She told ThePrint: “I am really excited to see him, I am a Cockroach. We do not have hope from Modi, but expect Dipke to do something for us” she said.
Dipke, a Boston University graduate, started a campaign demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, after the NEET paper was leaked. Thousands signed his petition.
