Leh/Jammu, Oct 23 (PTI) Ladakh Postal Division of the Department of Posts on Friday issued a special cover depicting the Union Territory’s Pashmina textile, a GI-tagged product, officials said.

This was to commemorate the Pashmina Conclave 2026 being held in Leh from October 23 to 24.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena released the envelope at an event organised by the Ladakh Administration in collaboration with the Department of Industries and Commerce at the Sheep Husbandry Farm in Leh’s Stakna, officials said.

Arvind Kher, Superintendent of Post Offices, Ladakh Postal Division, said the special cover highlights Ladakh’s rich Pashmina heritage and recognises the contributions of local herders, artisans and producers in promoting the GI-tagged products.

The envelope’s issuance will preserve the significance of Pashmina Conclave 2026 in the philatelic archives of the Department of Posts, he said.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena also inaugurated the two-day Pashmina Conclave, held to celebrate Ladakh’s “golden fibre” and its rich ancient nomadic heritage.

The conclave — being attended by delegates from Mongolia, Japan and Thailand — provides a platform to connect Ladakh’s Pashmina growers, artisans and entrepreneurs with international buyers.

The conclave reaffirms the Ladakh Administration’s commitment to strengthen market linkages, promote value addition, ensure better returns for herders and take Ladakh’s unique Pashmina heritage to the world, officials said. PTI AB AB RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
